Connecticut Radio Information System (CRIS): Bridging the Information Gap for the Print-Handicapped

The Connecticut Radio Information System (CRIS) is a vital non-profit radio reading service based in the United States, dedicated to providing essential information to individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or otherwise print-handicapped. Operating around the clock, CRIS offers a crucial service by making a wide array of printed materials accessible to those who may otherwise have difficulty obtaining them.

Since its inception, CRIS has focused on delivering comprehensive access to newspapers, magazines, books, and various other print media. By broadcasting 24/7, the station ensures that its listeners have continuous access to current news, literature, and informative content. The station's programming is tailored to meet the needs of its audience, including in-depth coverage on topics such as health, education, employment, and recreation, which are particularly relevant to the print-handicapped community.

CRIS broadcasts in English and is accessible throughout Connecticut via special receivers, internet streaming, and a telephone-based service. This multi-platform approach allows for widespread reach and flexibility, ensuring that users can access the service in a manner that best suits their needs.

Funded by the State of Connecticut, the United States Department of Education, and generous donations from individuals and organizations, CRIS is supported by a network of community and governmental resources. This funding underscores the station's commitment to providing high-quality, accessible information to those who rely on it.

For individuals seeking to stay informed and connected despite print limitations, the Connecticut Radio Information System stands as an invaluable resource, bridging the gap between the printed world and its audience.
